Hillsborough Community College Dale Mabry Campus Gallery221@HCC presents dis·tance, an exhibition by the artist Ya La’ford. This exhibition will be on display January 11–February 25, 2021 by appointment only. A virtual artist reception is scheduled for Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. on Zoom.

Ya La’ford (b. 1979, Bronx, NY) is an internationally recognized artist whose bold, geometric works explore themes of journey, transportation, transformation and transcendence. In dis·tance at Gallery221@HCC, La’ford re-evaluates and reimagines space and connection in this era of expanding interspace. With paintings, sculpture, and a site-specific installation, La’ford questions how we can find liberty and stability at a moment when time and space can at once be measured physically, computationally, and psychologically, and often these metrics contradict one another and complicate our collective experience.

Ya La’ford received her MFA with High Honors in Interdisciplinary Art from The Art Institute of Boston in 2012. She also holds a JD from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of Nike, the Boston Public Library, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and many others, as well as on the walls of buildings throughout the Tampa Bay area including the Morean Arts Center, the James Weldon Johnson Public Library, and Al Lang Stadium.
