The Seventh Day (2021)
Date
AVAILABLE TO STREAM AT HOME on FRIDAY, 3/26!
Vadhir Derbez is Father Daniel, a priest new to the field of exorcism who’s assigned to shadow “the best exorcist there is,” Father Peter (Guy Pearce, Memento) for his first day of training. As the two holy men get to know one another and Father Daniel learns to identify possession and the rites of exorcism, Father Peter asserts that his skill and success come from his willingness to run toward evil, not away from it. Exorcism is about more than memorizing prayers, he says; it’s dirty, terrifying work.
The priests’ newest case proves him right: A young boy, fresh off a mass murder, full of the most powerful possession Father Peter has ever seen. But as they plunge deeper into hell on earth, the lines between good and evil blur, and their own demons emerge.
Pitched as “Training Day meets The Exorcist,” The Seventh Day offers a fresh perspective on the Old Priest/Young Priest dynamic and giving it a new energy. It was written and directed by Australian filmmaker Justin P. Lange, whose first film, The Dark, was nominated for a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best First Feature in 2019.
