Tampa Theatre and WUSF Public Media are proud to bring a live storytelling event to the Theatre’s historic stage on Sept. 29 at the Tampa Theatre with “The Moth,” the tremendously popular producer of radio programs, podcasts, books and events.

The Moth is coming to Tampa for the first time, and the show will feature a diverse lineup of guests telling their personal stories of adventure, struggle, redemption, creativity and more. Guests tell their stories on stage, without notes, in the long tradition of a community gathering around the fire to share their experiences and their culture.

The Moth was founded in 1997 by the novelist George Dawes Green, who wanted to recreate in New York City the feeling of sultry summer evenings in his native Georgia, when moths were attracted to the light on the porch where he and his friends would gather to tell spellbinding tales. The first New York Moth event was held in George’s living room, and the story events quickly spread to larger venues throughout the city.

Moth shows are renowned for the great range of human experience they showcase. Each show starts with a theme, and the storytellers explore it, often in unexpected ways. Since each story is true and every voice authentic, the shows dance between documentary and theater, creating a unique, intimate, and often enlightening experience for the audience.

Tickets range from $40-$50 plus applicable taxes and fees ($43.50-$53.50 total at the Box Office & $47.50-$57.75 total online).

A limited number of VIP Tickets are also available for $128.50 plus applicable taxes and fees, which include premium seating for the performance and admission to the After Party with The Moth cast and WUSF personalities, complimentary beer & wine, and light hors d’oeuvres.

The Moth is presented in partnership with WUSF Public Media
