An engaging talk about the art of [SURVIVAL] with [MIRIAM ZIMMS]

What happens when the opportunity arises for us to personally experience the healing power of the arts through a health crisis? What if we allow the healing arts to enter our lives in all facets of mind (will), body (energy), and spirit (inner light/faith) support because we have no other choice? What if we find that art becomes just as important as medical treatment in survival? This lecture and demonstration will take attendees on Miriam’s survival journey answering those questions. She will use the arts – visual, movement, and sound to show how over 11 years she used the arts as a powerful tool for self-introspection and -expression over loss and trauma to move forward and heal. The lecture will be presented in an expressive story style and culminate in a class demonstration.

About the [ARTIST]: Miriam Zimms

I came to healing arts eleven years ago through the Arts in Medicine studio at Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC). Guided by the Artist in Residence there, I learned about the healing and expressive arts by using them as a patient.  I established a daily arts practice during and after multiple surgeries, treatment, and a long-term rehabilitation for a major health crisis  that left me with a disability. My award-winning abstract art has been featured across Tampa Bay and throughout Florida in medical institutions, private companies, and public galleries. I am a Certified Zentangle and an Expressive Arts Teacher. I have taught and teach classes online and in-person within the community for over seven years. I advocate in the community and present nationally and internationally on the “power of art to heal” as a way of self-expression to overcome loss and trauma, and as part of a long-term mind, body, spirit self-care practice.
