Reception | Sanctuary: Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz
Join HCC Art Galleries for a reception of Sanctuary, a solo exhibition by Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz at Gallery114@HCC Ybor City Campus. The event will be held on Thursday, October 27 from 5-8 p.m. A talk by Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz is to begin at 6 p.m.
Throughout her career, internationally recognized artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz (b. 1973, The Bronx, New York, NY) has confronted issues of race, bias, trauma, and class in her work, often through embodying strong, alpha-female archetypes ranging from the regal Las Reinas to the street-wise Chuleta. In her solo exhibition Sanctuary at Gallery114@HCC, new works in sculpture and performance portraits create a space of healing and refuge that intertwine with themes related to nature, hair culture, social politics and urban-futurism. Raimundi-Ortiz received her MFA in 2008 from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of Art and is currently an associate professor of studio art at George Mason University.
