A Taste of Laura Street is a reality soul food experience where 500 participants can taste and judge samples of food enjoying the historical ambiance of the former Laura Street African American Business District adjacent to historic downtown.
Awards will be presented for Best Entrée, Best Side, Best Dessert Dish, Art Galleries, Museum Exhibits, and live jazz/blues bands.
A Taste of Laura Street highlights the story of the Lincoln Park neighborhood during the era spanning 1920 thru 1969. Plant City Laura Street business district thrived with restaurants, rooming houses (hotels), movie theaters, funeral homes, ice cream parlors and even a physician (Dr. O.A. Joyner). The Bing Rooming House and Ms. Bing’s Seminole Restaurant anchored Laura Street aka “The Bottom” at the corner of South Allen and Laura Street. Culinary competitors range from local families, businesses to the culinary students at Plant City’s Simmons Career Center (Hillsborough County School District).
If you think our Plant City Blues, BBQ & Berries was fun; you’ll definitely enjoy this event. Competing vendors are required to have 200 samples of 3 to 4 ounces in size and will receive a stipend to offset costs of food courtesy of our sponsors. There is no fee for vendors choosing to compete and a $75 fee for non-competing vendors. Sponsorship levels of $250 – $500 are still available until August 1, 2024. Stay tuned for more information in July regarding this public food tasting festival.
