Everyone who saw A Christmas Story on its original release to theaters knew they were seeing a classic movie: a perfect glimpse of a particular moment from the past. It reviewed well. But the trouble was that not very many people saw it. Luckily for us all, it was given a whole new life on home video and, later, on cable – stations still sometimes run it for 24 hours at a stretch during the Christmas season. How sad it would be, if we didn’t have the adventures of Ralphie and his Christmas dreams to remember! His yearning for his Daisy Red Rider BB gun, his torture by bullies in the merciless cold of a Midwest winter, his old man’s lamp, the gin-blossomed department store Santa — and all of the other moments from this movie that have become our own memories as its fans.
This FREE, outdoor screening will take place at Curtis Hixon Park, located at 600 N. Ashley Drive, as part of the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s Winter Village. Concessions will be available and the Shops at Winter Village will be open; picnic baskets, blankets, lawn chairs, and costumes or film-inspired festive attire are encouraged!
(No RSVP is necessary, so please ignore “Click show times to purchase tickets” at right, and just show up!)
