Power, glory, revenge, and love. The Greek and Roman Pantheon has something to thrill us all.
Greek and Roman myths have inspired artists and authors for thousands of years. This tour discusses 3-6 artworks from The Ringling’s collections that portray images inspired by classical mythology. Students familiar with Greek and Roman myths will find connections in popular deities such as Aphrodite, Hercules and Perseus, while lesser-known themes such as bacchanals, mischievous satyrs, and the tale of the Narcissus are sure to delight and surprise.
Many ancient myths and legends still resonate with us today as the morals and stories they told relate to the human condition. By connecting works of art to students’ knowledge of ancient history, works of literature, and elements of contemporary culture, this tour creates opportunities for rewarding discussions and discoveries.
All virtual tours are led by an experienced museum educator who will meet with teachers ahead of the class tour to select works that fit your individual curriculum, heightening student interest and engagement.
