Gasparilla: A Tampa Tradition

On Saturday, January 20th, “Gasparilla: A Tampa Tradition” sails into the Henry B. Plant Museum! This exhibit explores the uncharted waters of Tampa’s oldest and most fun-loving community festival.

Visitors will enjoy learning about more than 100 years of parades, pirate invasions, coronation balls, memorabilia, clothing, and more. The Museum is proud to highlight items from the 1933 Gasparilla this year in honor of its 90th anniversary and a Gasparilla gown designed by African American fashion designer, Ann Lowe in 1957. There will also be film coverage of the celebration, “Memories of Gasparilla Festivals” that includes scenes from the 1920’s and reveals pirate capers and images from early parades.
