When Superman first flew onto comic book pages, the Kryptonian set the bar for the future of the medium. Female superheroes also filled those pages from the start, but their portrayal has been a subject of controversy. This presentation by Magdalena Lamarre examines how women are perceived in popular culture through the lens of comic books. Focusing on gender stereotyping and objectification of women, it addresses two questions: What are their real powers? & Why do I look like this?
