BoomerTown is a storytelling show geared towards anyone who identifies as a senior or that is 50+. Really, it’s for “folks who remember stuff the young ones don’t.”
Hosted by Walt Belcher of the Suncoast Storytellers, who was a journalist for The Tampa Tribune for over 40 years, BoomerTown promises to be a fun-filled afternoon of tales every fourth Sunday. Anyone can participate, from veteran storytellers to folks brand new to the craft. The show is an open mic, it’s an opportunity to learn and share, it’s a time to build a new community.
The Fringe Theatre has multiple ongoing shows and open mics, and, as the Fringe theatre movement is full of storytellers, hopes to help grow this scene on the Tampa side of the bridges. It also presents Shameless Stories, which is an all ages story mic on 2nd Wednesdays that veers a bit more towards the funny and scandalous, and will host Story Slams as time moves forward on 5th Sundays and Wednesdays. The Fringe Theatre is also home to Ybor’s newest full tech variety open mic, the Open Mic Upstairs, every Tuesday night. With Boomertown The Fringe Theatre specifically seeks to give a voice and bring a community opportunity to older Tampans. It’s never too late to jump on stage!
