“Beyond Words” portrays the unconditional love and beauty that exists in silence, with an understanding that silence also is not an option. An exhibit of pioneering artists inspiring change in their communities, and the Global Art World.
The artists in this exhibit are pioneers for inclusivity and representation of the portrayal of African-American diaspora in outdoor and public art. As both Detour and Nneka Jones have been participants in the Worldwide mural festival series, Pow Wow Worldwide (now Worldwide Walls) and have worked to break down the barriers in public art spaces that are systemically in place to prohibit the voice of inclusivity in the art world.
Artists Detour (Denver, CO), Nneka Jones (Tampa, FL), Christopher “Cooli Ras” Clark (Jacksonville, FL) exhibit in this group show that displays a range of African diaspora. This exhibit walks the viewer through a journey of the human form where beauty exists beyond words, in a world in which underrepresented artists cannot remain silent. The exhibit examines the ways in which words are paired with the shared human experience to change a collective or individual perspective, based on how the truth of history is re-shaping social and cultural identity.
Beyond Words is not only about beauty in the human form, but also the beauty in the way that language can expand perspective.
Beyond Words is part of a multi-location event taking place called “Bloom on Franklin” Hillsborough County’s monthly Art and Entertainment Walk in the Historic Arts District of Tampa Heights.
