Shaun of the Dead: 20th Anniversary
Date
Location
ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Part of the Y2K-ish boom in revisionist zombie movies, Shaun of the Dead is the story of Shaun (Simon Pegg), a British slacker approaching his 30s with a dead-end job, a slovenly best friend (Nick Frost as Ed), a loyal girlfriend who frankly deserves better (Kate Ashfield as Liz), and a habit of spending every night in the local pub, the Winchester. Still, could be worse, yeah?
And so, inevitably, it gets worse. The news begins to report that people are getting bitten and turning into shambling, hungry monsters. That goes a long way towards explaining some strange behavior from roommate Pete (Peter Serafinowicz) and just like that the crew is on the run, hiding from the zombies in the Winchester and trying to survive. Can you believe Shaun of the Dead is 20 years old this year? Can you believe we used to make movies about being surprised when something of consequence happens in the world?
One of director Edgar Wright’s loose Cornetto trilogy, and chockablock with references to the horror movies Wright and Pegg love, Shaun of the Dead is a rom-zom-com about taking responsibility, getting your hands dirty, and the dumb luck it takes just to survive sometimes.
This screening is held in the Historic Duncan Auditorium. This space utilizes open seating for this event; seat selection is not required.
