RootCamp at HCC Dale Mabry Campus

Join us for a ‘RootCamp’! Led by Rooted Resistance, RootCamps are an adaptive, community based group exercise session where participants engage in accessible functional strength training. All sessions emphasize reimagining and creating empowering mind-body positive spaces of movement.

When? Tuesday, November 30th | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Where? HCC Dale Mabry Campus, in the NEST site (Google map location here; between the Allied Health and Social Sciences buildings)
Parking on campus is free and open to the public
Participants will be provided with a free yoga mat and athletic towel on the day of the event, sponsored by the HCC Dale Mabry Student Government Association.

About the workshop leader:

Sam(ira) Obeid: poet, Indian, activist, lesbian, scholar, immigrant, warrior. Sam was born and raised in India, moved to the U.S. in 2007. She received her Masters degrees in Multimedia Journalism and Women’s & Gender Studies from the University of South Florida. Her full-time job is in non-discrimination work as Program Director at Community Tampa Bay. Her other full-time job is as a spoken word poet. She has been the keynote speaker at multiple LGBTQ+ events including Metro Wellness’ Youth Summit and USF’s first LGBTQ+ Gala, performed spoken word at Equality Florida’s Tampa Gala, and has given a TEDx Talk on deconstructing gender and gender identity. Sam is the Director of Grants and Contracts for Rooted Resistance.
