In 2012, after having been lost for over 500 years, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a carpark in Leicester. The search had been orchestrated by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting research had been met with incomprehension by her friends and family and with skepticism by experts and academics. But her own experiences with the challenges of physical disability (Richard was famously portrayed by William Shakespeare as an amoral misanthrope, turned villainous because of a spinal deformity) connect her with the monarch and foster in her an empathy that others deny.

Starring Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Happy-Go-Lucky) as Philippa, Steve Coogan (Philomena, The Trip) as her husband John Langley and Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones, The Theory of Everything) as Richard III, The Lost King is the sweetly funny and life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent scholars, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history.
