If we told you “the director of Slacker and Before Sunrise made a movie about a hitman,” you’d probably imagine one thing. Maybe a moody, artistic picture about a killer’s interior life, like The Killer with a hipper soundtrack. But if we told you “the director of School of Rock and 2011’s Bernie made a movie about a hitman,” you’d probably imagine something else. Like a wry, four-quadrant action-comedy in the style of a Grosse Pointe Blank or Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Of course, those directors are the same person, so Hit Man is both. And neither. But more of the latter than the former.

Indie darling — and Austin’s favorite son — Richard Linklater directs Hit Man, the sexy and semi-true story of Gary (Glen Powell), a college psychology professor who works for the New Orleans police department as an undercover agent, pretending to be a killer-for-hire and getting would-be clients arrested. Gary’s a committed employee, putting together elaborate costumes and fake identities to appeal to his marks. But when he meets the beautiful Madison (Adria Arjona) and tries to help her start a new life instead of having her husband killed, everything begins to crumble. Join us for this gorgeous, goofy take on the worst meet-cute imaginable.

This screening is held in the new Taylor Screening Room. At ticket purchase, you will be asked to select your reserved seat(s).
