Location

Henry B. Plant Museum
401 W. Kennedy Boulevard Tampa, FL 33606

Join us at the Henry B. Plant Museum on Sunday, April 30th, at noon, for a special peek behind the scenes of the construction of our upcoming exhibit, Captain’s Log: Voyages in the Age of Steam. History majors from the University of Tampa will introduce you to some of the photographs, objects, and ephemera that will go on display in the main exhibit gallery in September. Captain’s Log revisits the glamour and spectacle of steamship travel in Gilded Age America and celebrates the central role played by the Plant System Line in the creation of multiethnic Tampa.

Continue your journey into the past by attending a live musical performance at 1:00 pm in the Tampa Bay Hotel’s original Music Room. The University of Tampa music students and faculty who make up the cast of our upcoming concert film “Gems of Olivette” will perform highlights from the comic opera that took late-nineteenth-century Tampa by storm and furnished the name of one of Henry B. Plant’s famous steamships. What is the story of Olivette? Olivette’s father has betrothed her to an elderly sea captain, but our heroine has her own ideas about who she will wed. Who prevails? Join us on Sunday, April 30th to find out the answer.
