Susan Gott

Susan Gott has worked in glass for over 30 years and focuses in cast glass to create one-of-a-kind sculptures incorporating glass, steel and stone. Susan is originally fromcVirginia and relocated to Florida as an adult. Susan earned a Bachelor’s at Radford University in Virginia and studied glass at Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack, Arrowmont and Penland Schools. After earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in glass from Kent State University, Susan returned to Florida to establish Phoenix Glass Studio in Tampa. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including an American Craft Council Award of Excellence, Florida Individual Artist Fellowship, the Arts Council of Hillsborough County’s Individual Artist Grant and New Forms Florida. Susan’s work can be found in major galleries and in numerous private and corporate collections including Raymond James Financial, The Kessler Collection, Polypack and Disney Corporate Collection. Her work can be found in permanent museum collections including the Alexander Brest Museum, The Cafesijian Collection, Gulf Coast Museum of Art, St. Pete Museum of Fine Art and The Polk Museum of Art. Susan has created large scale, public artworks using cast glass bas-relief panels, lighting, fountains, seating while combining steel and stone. Public Art collections include All Children’s’ Hospital, Port St. Lucie County, University of Central Florida, Port Tampa Library, Hillsborough County, The City of St. Petersburg, The City of Tampa, and HARTline’s University Area Transit Center. Her work is published in New Glass Review, Glass Art 2000, Glass Art Magazine, and American Craft. Susan Gott’s interest in ancient cultures, spirituality and symbolism is an underlying theme of many of her sculptural works. She has traveled extensively and is inspired by many ancient and significant sites as she continues on her creative path. Since 1993, Susan is owner and proprietor of Phoenix Glass Studio, located just north of downtown Tampa, in the heart of Seminole Heights business district. Susan combines studio, home and family into a unique artist’s atelier. She has twenty years of experience as an art educator and has worked with several non-profit organizations including the Glass Art Society. Susan organized the 1999 Glass Art Society Conference held in Tampa and served as the Conference Co-Chair. Susan is an Arts Council Individual Artist Grant Award recipient.
